Cornwall Walking Tour Overview

Golden beaches fringed with palms may not be the first image that comes to mind when you think of the United Kingdom, but Cornwall is full of unexpected treasures. On this self-guided Cornwall walking tour, you’ll trace the rugged Cornish coastline, where turquoise waters meet dramatic cliffs, wildflowers, and freshly caught seafood takes centre stage on the Cornish coastal trails.

As a luxury walking holiday in Cornwall, our Cornwall Coast Walking Tour sees your evenings in elegant coastal boutique hotels surrounded by immaculate English gardens and breathtaking sea views. Equipped with our detailed route notes, you’ll have the freedom to shape your own adventure. Pause for a traditional cream tea, step back in time at Pendennis Castle, or wander across the tidal causeway to the enchanting St. Michael’s Mount. And with round-the-clock local support, you can fully relax as Cornwall’s magic unfolds around you.

As an easy-to-moderate route, this walk’s activity level is fairly accommodating. Although accessible for many, be aware that while hiking the Cornwall coast path and othe trails, you will encounter a variety of walking surfaces and elevations along this walking tour. These coastal paths on this walk are mainly exposed and go from the shoreline to the headlands and back down, with elevation gains and losses up to 900 feet.

Each day on the Cornwall Coast Walking Tour invites you to discover something new—whether it’s pausing to admire wildflowers along the cliffs, indulging in fresh local seafood, or uncovering stories etched into Cornwall’s historic castles and villages. With a mix of gentle challenge and rewarding comfort, this journey combines the freedom of self-guided exploration with the reassurance of seamless support. It’s the ideal way to experience Cornwall’s dramatic coastline.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Fowey

Arrive at the Par train station, then transfer to Fowey, a historic fishing village at the mouth of the River Fowey, or Fowey estuary. Wander its narrow lanes filled with medieval and Georgian architecture, browse shops and galleries, or visit the small museum celebrating author Daphne du Maurier. In the evening, meet your local host for a welcome briefing before enjoying a dinner of regional specialities, from oysters to Cornish cheeses.

Included Meals: Dinner

Day 2: The National Trust Hall Walk (5.6 miles/9 km)

Today, you set off on the breathtaking footpaths of Cornwall. After breakfast, take the ferry to Bodinnick and join the National Trust’s Hall Walk. This gentle trail meanders through woodland and fields with sweeping views of the Fowey estuary. Pass landmarks tied to local writers and English history, including Daphne du Maurier’s wedding church and Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch’s memorial. Continue through tranquil creeks and villages before returning to Fowey by ferry. Evening free to sample Cornwall’s famous seafood or local pubs and cafes.

Trace rugged headlands, quiet coves, and sandy beaches while keeping an eye out for seals, dolphins, and seabirds. Highlights include St. Anthony’s Head with its lighthouse and wartime history, before finishing at the seaside village of Place. A short ferry ride delivers you to St. Mawes, where you settle into this charming harbour town.

Both options showcase Cornwall’s rich history and scenery. Return to St. Mawes in the evening.
