May is a fabulous month, the weather warms up ready for the summer, flowers and trees are blooming and people are heading back outdoors after the long winter months, which means there are loads of things to see and do at this time of year. We’ve selected some of our favorite events that are on this May in the Cotswolds below.

Victorian May Day, Sudeley Castle

Celebrate May Day in traditional style at Sudeley Castle with classic games, activities, and entertainment. Sudeley Castle is a great spot for the whole family, located in the Cotswold town of Winchcombe the castle is beautiful and the grounds are stunning. There is a huge play area for the children with an amazing wooden fort that will provide hours of fun. There is a lovely cafe and if the weather’s great bring a picnic.

The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk at the Everyman Theatre 

Partners in life and on canvas, Marc and Bella are immortalized as the picture of romance, yet they journey through some of the most devastating times in history from the Pogroms to the Russian Revolution. This theatrical event is brought to you by Emma Rice and is drawn in a theatrical language as fluid as Chagall’s paintings, and woven throughout with music and dance inspired by Russian Jewish tradition. This production was also awarded the winner of the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award 2017. If you are a theatre lover and fancy a feast for the eyes then book yourself a ticket.

 Batsford Forest School for pre-schoolers

A chance for pre-schoolers up to the age of 4, to engage with nature and explore the newly established Forest School site. There is even a large covered area for wet days so don’t panic if you pre-book tickets and the weather doesn’t work in your favour. Children can enjoy bug hunting, creating mud pies in the mud kitchen, craft activities, and storytime and will absolutely love getting down and dirty in the great outdoors. Make sure you pack wellies and waterproofs for them! The sessions will be led by the Forest School Leader but children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session, so you might need your wellies too!

Postcard Portraits at Nature in Art 

If you are into your art then this one is for you. Wallsworth Hall near Gloucester has a special exhibition called Nature in Art to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Hundreds of artists who have worked with Nature in Art have each created a special work of art to be viewed and sold here so there will be all sorts of beautiful creations. Don’t feel you have to buy though it is more than acceptable to go and have a mooch around and just enjoy the art.

Arboricultural Association Show, Westonbirt

Every year the professionals who work with the UK’s trees come together for a celebration of the science of trees, if you love forest walks and admiring the trees then you will have a great time at the ARB show and what’s more, it is free to enter as long as you have paid admission to the Arboritum itself. The show takes place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of May this year, you can expect all major kit suppliers to present with amazing show discounts, over 90 exhibitors providing advice and show deals, and a variety of educational workshops on Friday. You can meet the experts who work with the nation’s trees, watch exciting stunts and demonstrations, and have a go on the all-ages climbing wall and zip line.
